December 2006
As you may've read in the tabloids, Terry was diagnosed with the early stages of bowel cancer (roughly translated: nasty things in the bit that holds the poo) and was admitted to hospital for an operation on his bowel (roughly translated: a snippy thing that takes out the nasty thing that is in the bit that holds the poo). Terry has released this statement to the Nation's press:
"Unfortunately, my illness is not nearly bad enough to sell many newspapers, and the prognosis is even more disappointing."
Terry is now out of hospital and recouperating nicely at home, so the acceptance of get well wishes for inclusion in the Fans' Get Well Card has now closed (because otherwise he'll be fully recovered by the time he receives it!!) but if you have any best wishes you'd like to pass on, keep them coming to terryjoneswebsite@yahoo.co.uk and hopefully they will still be read eventually.
October 2006
Terry has, unfortunately had to pull out of the filming Children of The Stones for Kombat Opera, who bought us The Jerry Springer Opera, towards the end of this month. Terry was set to direct, with Bill Jones editing, and Kevin Eldon (of Spaced and Big Train fame) starring. The production will still be listed as "Co-Directed by Terry Jones due to the use of his storyboards and rehearsal time.
The story Evil Machines (about machines who fight back!) has been completed and is currently being turned into a screenplay.
To mark the release of The Director's Son's Cut of Erik The Viking, Terry will be appearing on BBC Breakfast News on Monday, October 9th, so set your video!
Read more about the release HERE.
There will also be a signing at Virgin Megastore on Oxford Street, on Thursday 12th October at 6pm.
Terry should be bringing his Barbarian's lecture to the Norfolk Archaeological Society on Friday 29th October, and to the Folkstone Literary Festival on Friday 10th November, but obviously this is subject to change at the moment, especially the Norfolk lecture. I suggest ringing the venue to confirm cancellation.
May 2006
Here is the best list I can manage of Terry's festival appearances and book signings over the coming months. Like it says at the top, please call or Google the venues for more information. I was going to try and guess at the addresses of some of the venues but I didn't want to be sending you all off on a wild goose chase... Honest.
Signings and Festival Appearances.
May 2006
The Barbarians begins on BBC2 on the 26th May at 9pm.
Terry is appearing at this year's Hay on Wye festival on the 27th May, doing a talk on the Barbarians, and presenting the Director's Son's Cut of Erik The Viking complete with a Q&A afterwards. Tickets to both events are £8.
The aforementioned Director's Son's Cut of Erik The Viking will be released on a Special Edition 2 disc set in October. (Thanks Chica!)
March 2006
It can't really have been two years, can it? Well, did you enjoy The Story Of One? I did.
Terry's just finished four one hour programmes for BBC2 called Barbarians (no air dates yet).
He's also down to direct an animated feature but the money hasn't been raised (!).
From August onward he's supposed to be directing six 30 minute operas written by the guys who wrote the Jerry Springer Opera. Apparently they're very funny and quite offensive (now who does that remind us of?)
He's also trying to finish a book of stories that he hopes to turn into a screenplay.
Good news for our American friends! Terry is acting as Writer in Residence at Pace University New York for the last week of April where he'll be lecturing on all things medieval (and barbaric). I believe the Pace Uni lectures are open to the public, so get along!
For folks on the west coast, Terry's giving a talk on Barbarians at the Hammer Museum in LA on 29th (?) April - check it out.
And as if that wasn't enough, he's off to Arkansas to talk at the University there, and then to Kalamazoo, Michigan, where he'll be talking about Richard II at the Medieval Conference there.
February 2004
The Story of One has now finished filming - hopefully airing dates will be released soon!
Coming up this year is a new BBC2 Series called Barbarian and a new book 'whose title is secret at the moment.'
December 2004
Terry has just finished writing the third of the 'Squire' series of books called The Tyrant And The Squire - keep an eye out here for release dates!
'The Story of One', the BBC's documentary on the history of numbers, is currently being made and is due for a prime time airing. Hurrah!
Terry's hopes for the new year include a new BBC history series or a new feature film.
September 2004
I haven't updated in a while as there's not been that much news! However, it's rolling in now.
Terry has personalised an envelope for the National Literature Trust charity. You can view it here, www.pushingtheenvelope.info and bid on it on Ebay. Go for it. It's charideee...
Ripping Yarns is released on Region 2 DVD on 11th October with oodles of extras.
Medieval Lives appears to be on telly all the time (or is it just me who keeps stumbling across it?)
The BBC has apparently commissioned a new series of documentaries for the Autumn, one with Terry discussing the origins of numbers. You can read about it here.
Don't forget that news comes in dribs and drabs into the message board from other fans too!
June 2004
Terry's 1995 series "Crusades" about, well, The Crusades, will be repeated on UKTV History from July 6th at 1pm. (Thanks Chica!)
Erik The Viking is up for a DVD release soon as Terry is currently recording the commentary for it, as well as finishing off Ripping Yarns' commentary with Michael Palin.
Terry and Terry Gilliam are off to Uherske Hradiste Summer Film school in July.
May 2004
Terry will be giving a "Who Murdered Chaucer?" talk as part of the Hay On Wye literary festival on Sunday 30th May.
Terry is now "..currently about half way through The Tyrant And The Squire..."
The double disk Special Edition DVD of The Meaning Of Life (previously only available on Region 1) has been released in the UK. Get it NOW. Okay? Also, slightly off topic, but The Private Life Of Sherlock Holmes has also just been given a Region 2 release. Perhaps not of interest to all of you, but very exciting to me...
May 2004
Terry has had several more articles printed in The Guardian, including links to this here site!
It's been announced that there's to be a release for Ripping Yarns on DVD. Should be available around September and will feature deleted scenes, a commentary, and documentaries. Read about my experience at the recording of the commentary, here.
Terry is still hard at it writing the third book in The Squire series, "The Tyrant And The Squire"April 2004
An article written by Terry Jones is published in The Guardian on 14th April.
BBC2 are showing repeats of The Discovery Channel's Hidden History series on Monday nights at 7.40pm-ish. Pretty much in replacement of Medieval Lives.
BBC2's 40th Birthday Celebrations on the 20th April should feature some Python bits too, so watch out.
March 2004
As I redesign this website, the BBC 2 series Terry Jones's Medieval Lives draws to a close on BBC 2. There's a book to accompany it as well, with lots of words and pretty pictures to enjoy. It's 18.99 in hardback, so treat yourself.
"Who Murdered Chaucer" is released in paperback on April 8th at 9.99, but you can buy it now in hardback for around 19.99
The greatest Python book so far, in my opinion, was released in September last year. "The Pythons Autobiography by The Pythons" is available in a lovely Coffee-Table sized piece of beautiousness for 18.00 from Amazon, and is well worth the pennies. There's also an accompanying CD of the interviews used which is lovely and intimate.
And don't forget to check out my exclusive interview. Oh yes.
